Is it possible to have a cnr download of files necessary to make sound work in Linspire 6.0.17? It would be great if those files could find their way into the proper folders with permissions set. My sound worked fine when I first installed Linspire 6.0.17 but some subsequent install has disabled it. My sound system is an Ensoniq ES1371. I'm pretty sure that it is supported because it worked fine when I first installed.

What recent products have been installed (CNR Software filter or under the History tab)?

Go to Ubuntu forums - multimedia audo and video and follow instructions there. Go to section labeled

"Getting the ALSA drivers from a *fresh *kernel". Under this heading go to (1) remove these packages

and follow instructions to remove and reinstall. It worked for me. Full sound back in Linspire 6.0.17.

I think the installation of Amarok is what messed up my sound.

My install of LOS 6 had disappearing sound issues to begin with. Eventually the issues stopped happening. To get my sound working again I did :

start - help - additional options - startup wizard

Worth giving that a try first.
