I tried to get the client to install a few things, a few times, on two different computers... EVERY time, it says the CNR client is not updated and then it asks me to update it... I update it, it says that its updated... and then I can browse the CNR software. I try to install it again, it says the client is not updated, I update it, it says that it is sucessfully updated, asks me to browse the CNR software...

This same thing over and over again.

What version OS, and what version of the client are you using?

Its freespire 2.0.3. I do not know what version CNR is.

What I did was, I deleted CNR, then I reinstalled it using apt-get in the terminal. Now, I get far enough that an app will start to install then it says installation failed, and leaves no reason for it.

To see the client version, fom a terminal (konsole) run the command: apt-cache policy cnr-client

The latest is 0.2.3799-0cnr1~feistyskipjack1

You can also start cnr from a terminal with the command: cnr
This should have text output of what is, or is not, happening when you try to install something.

If the version they have has not been updated then it 0.1.2600. My sugestion is the download the new version of freespire. It has more up to date cnr client. If you have not tried to update your cnr client from apt-get try that first. I had the same problem with my system and I finally got it fixed. But I couldn't update on the update page on cnr. I have 2.0.3 that has been updated to 2.0.8. IF you get the same version in apt-get that is already installed 0.1.2600 then your other choice will be to do a download of 2.0.8

Thanks JD for that bit of information.

I'm running Klikit-Linux, which is based on Kubuntu 7.04, and I get an error message that CNR cannot identify the distribution. This is the output from my Konsole window : --

Questions :

  1. How does CNR client identify the distribution?
  2. Is there any way I can feed the requisite information to the client?
Paul

PS How do I quote something, and how do I get rid of those links automatically added to the text?

1. I have no idea how it IDs the OS. But you can edit the file at ~/root/.config/Linspire, Inc./CNR.conf to change it.

Look for the lines:

'DistID=' and 'DistArchID=' change both to 2 for Fiesty.

Then remove /var/lib/cnr/client/packages and restart the CNR client.

2. I don't know.

To quote, each line of the quoted portion must start with a ">" (without the quote marks)

Thanks, JD.

  • I have tried adding CNR to the repositories for this distro. Seems to have broken Synaptic at the moment. When opened, it complains and then closes once I click on the error message to send it away : --

An error occurred

E: Malformed line 89 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse)
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

  • I have also tried accessing the CNR repositories directly in HTTP with this result : --

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

Just as an observation, I signed out and got an error message : --

Error while loading page

I signed back in again and got the same error message.

Error while loading page

I had to navigate back here from the 'Home' page.
