locking up when press play

how can i stop it locking up when i press play.

doesn't show sound card in properties.

linspire 6 latest update. I have tried reinstalling.

everthing seems to work, but as soon as i select play it locks . i then have to use terminate program.

I can play back with k3b, lsongs, kplayer. no problems.

Enter from the console command prompt:~$ lspci
Pls. reply back with the output (especiall the output from Multimedia audio controller:)...

Ok, I've been running into this. Even my other hint didn't work: http://community.cnr.com/thread/1159.

Not sure why it happens, but I found this post in my googling: http://www.debianhelp.org/node/8734#comment-31597

I went to Launch >>> Settings >>> Control Center

Then goto Sound & Multimedia >>> Sound System

Uncheck Enable the Sound System.

That made my proper sound card show in the Audacity preferences.

Worked a dream,it also seemed to have cured a problem I've been having with skype.

where it seems i have been breaking up slightly.

I just reinstalled 6.0.17 after trying out Mandriva for a spell.

Yes, I'm having that problem. Also, it takes several seconds for the program to load, twenty to twenty-three seconds. Further, it gives me only one playback choice, OSS: /dev/dsp in Preferences>Audio I/O

I tried unchecking the sound system as noted in this thread. It didn't work. It still locks up.

I'm now going to look thorugh the rest of this thread to see if I missed anything. :-) Who? Me?
