The first filter I want to see shows only Linux software packages, filtering out those many files that are just components of a larger software package.
The second filter would chose between software that is written to work with each of the following Graphical User Interfaces: KDE (Linspire, Freespire, Kubuntu), GNOME (Ubuntu), XCFE (Xubuntu). Then regardless of filter, GUI independent software like Firefox and Thunderbird would show up under all three filters. I would then establish one final filter for those gurus that perform their wizardry directly from the command line.
Another filter would filter out that software that was not currently available for my particular distribution and version. This filter would spare be from either carefully noting availability before downloading (2 or3 time consuming clicks on a dialup line) or being told halfway through the download process that the chosen software isn't available for my distribution!
Last but not least, in as much as Linspire and Cannonical announced a technical cooperation agreement many months ago, I want to see the CNR client added to the current Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu/Edubuntu desktop distribution so that novice users aren't forced to struggle with the complicated instructions currently required for adding the CNR client to their system. Note that this is an urgent request since Ubuntu 8.04 and its siblings will be released on April 24, and Ubuntu 8.10 will be released just six months later!
