What to do when Audacity locks up when opening files

(Using Linspire 6.0)
- Open Audacity.
- Before you load any files, go to Edit >>> Preferences
- Select Audio I/O tab (normally should already be selected)
- For Playback device: instead of OSS:/dev/dsp, select the sound card that you have.
If your recording won' t work you may need to change the Record Device in a similar manner.
