CNR fails to initialize

Whenever I try to run CNR it fails to initialize. When I tried to download my first package it told me I had to update to be able to install software. After I did this CNR would no longer initialize. Is there something that I have missed in using CNR? I can install packaged using apt-get install but would like to be able to use the CNR manager.

The version is freespire 2.0.3. I am not sure what version the CNR client I assume its the latest that came with the distro and then I updated it? Thanks for your help.

Did the update as suggested but it still fails to initialize. I even tried reinstalling freespire. It will initialize the first time that I use it and then when I try to install software it will require me to upgrade and then it will stop initializing. I can install using apt-get its just hte CNR client that is the problem. Thanks Chris

I know this might not be the best answer, but you can always download and install the latest version of Freespire 2.0 that includes the updated client...

I thought the version i had was the latest? I understand what you are saying about reinstalling freespire. Do I need to be logged in as root to be able to use CNR? Or is there some other way of reinstalling the CNR client before taking that option?

If you're running Freespire 2.0 build 2.0.3 that isn't the latest (most recent is build 2.0.8). The CNR Client doesn't need to be ran from the root account, but the user account must belong to the cnr group (KUser User Manager under Programs > System). You always could install the cnr-client from apt (instruction here)...

If you wish to debug this issue it would be helpful if you could start CNR from the Konsole and paste the output into this thread.

Thanks again for that advice. I realised that I had downloaded an earlier version of Freespire. I went back in and redownloaded it and installed it 2.08 on another computer and it worked fine to start with. Like you said this was probably the easiest solution. I installed a couple of programs but one of them wouldn't work. After this the computer kept freezing. Then i kept getting a message whenever I tried to install the software that it couldn't find the packages on the server. This was after it had downloaded them??? Is there any advice on this?

Evidently not. I'm having a similar problem with Linspire 6.0.15, CNR Client version 7.0.0:

CNR initialization failed

Latest version is 0.2.3201 (7.0.0 is not the client version)

Run this command in a konsole (terminal) to find out which version you have installed:

apt-cache policy cnr-client

If 7.0.0 is not the client version, then why does it say "CNR Client version 7.0.0" when I enter the command "cnr -v" into the shell?

Will you run the command:
apt-cache policy cnr-client

Sure, I have nothing better to do -- here's what I get:
cnr-client:
Installed: 0.2.3201
Candidate: 0.2.3201
Version table:
      • 0.2.3201 0
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
