Not any more thanks to the responses of Dr. Jones and BigDawg.

I burnt ver 2.0.8 to cd and installed it on my 2nd HD over 2.0.3 and everything worked PERFECTLY.

It worked so good that I actually Installed it on my primary Drive OVER Ubuntu 7.0.4. (Been using it for Months) Since Freespire uses this as the base software.

Everything is still working Great. One question though for all you Linux Guru's

I backed up my *.default from Firefox AND Thunderbird which was my Software of choice on Ubuntu because I did not want to loose my email and bookmarks.

Installed Thunderbird on Freespire.

My question (probably dumb because I have been a hard core windows fan untill about 6 months ago) How do I get those *default backups I made back into Freespire?? I know where the files were in Ubuntu i.e /home/acaby/ but I am not sure that Freespire has the same file structure and if they are the same so I just cut and paste my backups i.e

Firefox= vtcn82yu.default

Thunderbird=iltby24r.default

over the Freespire defaults and edit the ini file or do I copy and paste without editing the ini file and rename the defaults the same that is listed in freespire.

Confused??

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Arthur

The mail is located in a file under /home/account/.mailclient/unique.default/Mail (in your case /home/acaby/.thunderbird/iltby24r.default). After opening the mail client the default directories will be created and you can copy your back-up mail to the new mail client directory under /home/acaby (Note: the same email client package version will store the mail in the same location on any Linux system). Hope this clarifies...

Apologies if this is too far off topic but,....

In the future try the FEBE add on for Firefox. It'll backup about anything in Firefox you'd want to save or copy to your next setup.

Thanks Dr. Jones for this info.

It clarifies my situation except I have one more question. Since the .default numbers will be different can I open my backups from Ubuntu and copy the Entire Contents to the Freespire .default dir's for Firefox and Thunderbird because there are a lot of files in them and I am not sure which ones to use. I could try I guess and if it screws up the softwares I can just re-install the OS.

Thanks,

Arthur

You should be fairly safe to copy all the directories and files under the unique.default directory (Note recommend don't move the .default directory; possibly causing issues with the mail client), then reopen the mail client and all should be like before...

Since the original post has been answered this may not be the correct forum for this post. If so please direct me to the proper place and I will delete this post and put it there

Thanks, I copied my backup files in the new *.default, loaded Tbird and the email was there. One small glitch that has me totally in the dark.

When I open tbird I get a warning about the security settings,

I checked all the account settings i.e. 995, SSL (which my ISP requires) and they are all good.

However when I try to check my email it will not log in and I get this message.(QUOTE) SSL Protocol has been Disabled

I went back and checked my permissions on the *.default folder and it was drwx-------

I changed it to 777 i.e drwxrwxrwx

I checked the default.ini and it is correct in directing to the *.default folder

After all that I still get the same message that the SSL protocol has been disabled and will not connect.

I used the canned email client in freespire and it connects and dloads my email???

Sorry but I am confused again--
