CNR loads the new client over and over

I've been trying to get my new Linspire 6.015 working correctly. I am a longtime LINSPIRE 5 user and have a CNR GOLD subscription. I recieved the EMAIL telling me that I need to upgrade the CNR client, which is fine. But, when I click on the link to upgrade it says it installs correctly, and gives me the option to browse for software. When I choose anything, it sticks me right back into the YOU MUST UPGRADE YOUR CNR CLIENT screen again. In other words, it a) isn't actually upgrading the client or b) does not recognize that the client has already been upgraded. I've restarted the browser, the machine, and CNR. I just will not do either A or B above.

How do I actually get the client upgraded? Is this a simple procedure? Why does it not work?

I have noted that other folks have commented on how unclear some of these instructions are sometimes. It would help if you used the actual menu commands in the description, and take the time to assume that we can't read minds and include ALL of the steps clearly indicating what menu we need to be in. The most common error is when it tells me that I don't have permissions to actually follow the procedure. .

It should NOT be as hard as everything has been to do this upgrade! So far, I'm seriously disappointed.

I am sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience, I would like to try to understand what happened better so as to try to resolve the problem. To do that I need to ask you some questions:

  • When you ran the update from the web site, did it go very fast or did it take a little while to complete?
  • Was the client running when you performed the udpate?
  • Can you open the client now and tell me what version it is? (You can open the client UI by right mouse clicking on the cnr icon in the system tray on the lower right hand side. In the manage software tab, find the cnr-client product and click on it to see the version.

Same thing here. It keeps wanting to install the new CNR client. It can't install the client because it wants JAVA 6. It can't install java 6 because it wants the new client.

I thought Java 6 was bundled with Linspire 6.0.15. Are you running Ubuntu 7.04?

No. It said it was done very quickly. 5-10 seconds.

Was the client running when you performed the update?

Yes, and No. I've tried it several times under different circumstances

CNR Client cnr-client 0.1.2777 i386 21725 update

Yes, I am running Linspire 6.015. Right now, CNR is useless to me as it will not update the client. Have they updated the 6.015 image for download with the new client? If I must, I can reimage my machine, although that is not the prefered solution.

As it turned out, when I loaded my wifes new machine (will be for Christmas - replaces a Celeron running XP) I loaded Linspire 6.015 and immediately ran the upgrade and it not only worked, but forced 143 changes as well to the OS. This being the case, I gave up on trying to salvage the old install on my machine and just reloaded the OS.

So, since I could not get the new CNR client to load, and since soooo much had to be patched, the reload was called for. I recommend this vector for anyone else so affected.
